what is climate change?

It is the long term change in average weather patters that has come to define Earths climates. These changes are caused primarily by human activities such as burning fossil fuels which increases levels of heat trapping greenhouse gases, and in turn raises the Earth's temperature.

why should i care?

We are all affected by these changes, irrespective of our location.

From extreme weather to increasing food prices, to recreation and decreased opportunities to appreciate nature. People everywhere are feeling the effect of climate change! Tackling this issue is necessary to create a world where people and nature thrive.

Remember, there's no planet B.

what can i do?

at home
food
travel
  • Walk or cycle where possible to avoid driving unnecessarily. This reduces the carbon emissions.

  • Consider purchasing hybrid or electric vehicles instead of petrol/diesel guzzlers.

fashion
  • Shop less and embrace what you already own.

  • Try DIY to revamp your wardrobe.

  • Consider purchasing clothes in vintage or charity shops. Alternatively, make use of apps like Depop, eBay or Vinted.

  • Use natural fibers like cotton instead of polyester. Polyester contains microfibres that can harm marine life where washed.

  • Use cold water to wash your clothes.

political
  • Ensure you participate in elections by voting for the party that is actively making steps towards reducing carbon emissions.

  • Let your constituent representatives know you want them to take action to address the climate emergency.

  • Our votes and voices have never been more instrumental in determining how much action is taken in fighting against Climate change.

  • Replace light bulbs with LED ones as they use a quarter of the energy normal ones do, and they last 25 times longer

  • Switch lights off when you leave the room, and unplug electronics when they are not in use.

  • Reduce waste, reuse containers and recycle.

  • Switch to green tarrif.

  • Consider a plant based diet, cut down on meat consumption. â€‹â€‹ This also reduces the chance of developing cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes.

  • Shop local. Choose food grown in your region rather than buying food that is imported from other continents.

  • Be conscious of packaging when shopping. Try to buy unpackaged fruits & vegetables. Choose tin can stored food over plastic stored food.

  • Buy in bulk as much as possible. This will save money and results in less food waste.
